Privacy Policy
Effective Date: April 17, 2026
SolveWise (solvewise.org) is operated by TPatel Finance LLC. We are committed to protecting the privacy of our users, especially children. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.
2. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
SolveWise is designed for K-12 students. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and take the following measures:
- Parental consent is required. All student accounts are created by a parent or guardian. Children cannot create accounts on their own.
- Parents can review, correct, or delete their child's data at any time from the parent dashboard or by emailing support@solvewise.org.
- No personally identifiable information is included in AI requests. Only the problem text is sent to our AI provider.
- Children's information is never made publicly visible.
- We do not serve targeted advertising to children.
3. What We Collect
Account-Holder Information (parent/guardian)
Email address, hashed password (we never store plaintext passwords), full name, zip code, birth month, and birth year. Birth month and year are collected to verify the account holder is 18 or older; we do not store day of birth.
Child Information (student profile)
For each child the account holder adds, SolveWise collects ONLY:
- First name (chosen by the account holder)
- Grade level (used to tune explanations)
- Username and hashed password (chosen by the account holder)
- Learning activity: math problems attempted, solutions viewed, hints used, quiz scores, mastery scores, session timestamps
We do not collect date of birth, age, email address, phone number, photo, geolocation, or any other personally identifiable information about children. Child learning data is never shared with third parties for marketing or advertising.
Usage Data
Problems submitted, solutions generated, quiz scores, mastery progress, and session timestamps.
Technical Data
Browser type, device type, anonymized analytics (via PostHog), and error logs (via Sentry) for troubleshooting. Analytics data is anonymized and does not identify individual users.
Payment Data
All payment processing is handled by Stripe (PCI-DSS compliant). We never store credit card numbers, banking information, or full payment details on our servers.
4. How We Use Your Data
- Deliver personalized tutoring and track learning progress
- Monitor for errors and ensure platform reliability
- Improve the quality of explanations and problem-solving
- Send account-related emails to parents (e.g., billing, account updates)
5. What We Do Not Do
- We do not sell personal information to anyone, ever.
- We do not serve advertising of any kind.
- We do not share data with other companies for marketing purposes.
- We do not allow children to make their information publicly visible.
- We do not collect more information than is needed to provide the service.
- We do not serve targeted advertising to children.
6. Third-Party Services
We use the following services to operate SolveWise:
| Service | Purpose | Data Shared |
|---|---|---|
| Anthropic | AI-powered tutoring | Problem text only, no PII |
| Supabase | Database and authentication | Account and learning data (encrypted at rest) |
| Vercel | Website hosting | Server logs only |
| Stripe | Payment processing (PCI-DSS compliant) | Payment details (never stored by us) |
| PostHog | Product analytics | Anonymized usage data |
| Sentry | Error monitoring | Technical errors only |
| Resend | Transactional email (from support@solvewise.org) | Parent email address only |
| UptimeRobot | Uptime monitoring | No user data |
7. Data Security
We implement multiple layers of security to protect your data:
- All data is transmitted over HTTPS encryption.
- Database access is restricted with row-level security (RLS) policies — users can only access their own data.
- Authentication is handled via JWT tokens with secure session management.
- API endpoints are protected with rate limiting to prevent abuse.
- File uploads are validated for type and size before processing.
- Administrative access is restricted and monitored.
8. Data Retention and Deletion
- Account data is retained while the subscription is active and the account is in use.
- Parents can deactivate a child from their dashboard at any time. This hides the child's profile but preserves their progress data, which can be restored later.
- Parents can permanently delete a child's account and all associated data (homework uploads, session history, quiz results, and proficiency records) at any time from the parent dashboard. This action is irreversible.
- If a subscription is cancelled, account data is retained for 12 months to allow reactivation. After 12 months of inactivity, all data is permanently deleted.
- Dormant accounts (no login for 18 months and no active subscription) are automatically purged.
- Error logs and diagnostic data are automatically purged after 90 days.
- PostHog analytics data is anonymized and cannot be traced to individual users.
- Parents may request full data deletion at any time by emailing support@solvewise.org. Requests are processed within 30 days.
9. Your Rights
As a parent or guardian, you have the right to:
- Review the personal information we have collected from your child
- Request deletion of your child's personal information
- Refuse further collection or use of your child's information (which may require closing the account)
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@solvewise.org.
10. California Residents
Although SolveWise may not meet the revenue or data-volume thresholds that trigger mandatory CCPA compliance, we voluntarily extend the following rights to California residents: the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to request deletion, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information). Contact support@solvewise.org to exercise these rights.
11. Changes to This Policy
We will notify registered parents via email of any material changes to this policy. The updated policy will be posted at solvewise.org/privacy with a new effective date.
